LOS ANGELES (AP)–just over half of American Pet owners will buy gifts for their pets this holiday season, and they will spend on average $ 46 on animals, toys and treats topping the list, according to new poll AP-Petside.com.
Sixty-eight percent of pets are getting gifts can look forward to toys, 45 percent for food or other treat, 8 percent new bedding, clothes 6 per cent, 3 per cent of the rope, the collar or harness and 3 per cent of new care products, the poll showed. (Some pets will get a prize of more than one.)
"Christmas is all about pets," says Gayla Bentley McCarthy, 58, Kekaha, Hawaii, Australia Shepherd, Echo, will find toys under the tree. McCarthy even got shirts for her husband as a gift to him from a dog, and he'll give collapsible Bowl that he ordered online for canine friends.
Although the average budget for pet gift among those surveyed $ 46, 72 percent of those surveyed said they would spend $ 30 or less. People who buy gifts for their pets last year said they spent an average $ 41.
Overall, 51 percent of those surveyed this year said they would buy a holiday gift to their pets, a figure that has been relatively stable in the AP-Petside.com poll last couple. It was 53 percent last year, 52 percent in 2009 and 43 percent in 2008.
